Environment

Linger Longer Vineyard accommodation looks south over the Shiraz vines to the Willunga Ranges. On the northern side are the Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard and a small parcel of Chardonnay. Alpacas and sheep graze on our adjoining neighbour's block and love to come to the fence for some tasty offerings and attention.

Blessed with such a lovely environment we do what we can to preserve it and live in harmony with nature. We organically grow our own fruit and vegetables and preserve what isn't eaten fresh; with worm farm and compost containers ensuring that little goes to waste. Solar panels largely compensate for electricity used and the vineyards and garden are watered from the bore and rain water tanks. Our vineyard is now being managed according to biodynamic principles which, as well as harmonising with nature will also, we believe, enhance the flavour of the grapes.

Increasingly native fauna are appreciating our healthy environment. As well as the many birds, frogs are slowly returning, our elderly resident lizard basks in the sun and kangaroos occasionally hop across our block and stop for a snack in the vegetable beds. Pixie, the possum, is still living on the property. As a baby she was rescued from a busy main road after falling from her mother's pouch and hand reared at home until big enough to fend for herself. She now lives freely, sleeps in the shed in the day and enjoys a feast of vegetables, fruit and nuts.

Travelling in any direction from Linger Longer Vineyard is like driving through a picture postcard. We are surrounded by the Willunga Ranges, glorious beaches, scenic vineyards and tranquil farm scenes, with Willunga, a historic slate town, and McLaren Vale, the hub of the wine scene, just a few minutes drive away. Whatever your mood there will be something to enjoy and, as the McLaren Vale saying goes - One thing leads to another.
